India has suspended visa services in the Bangladeshi port city of Chittagong following the intensification of violence. Visa-related activities have been suspended at the Indian High Commission there. Anti-India protests have been taking place across Bangladesh following the killing of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi. Violence continues in Bangladesh; India suspends visa services in Chittagong indefinitely Dhaka, December 21: India has suspended its visa operations in Chittagong indefinitely in the wake of yet another violent incident in Bangladesh. The decision came after Bangladeshi protesters attacked the Indian High Commission in Chittagong. A large crowd of people tried to storm the Indian embassy but security forces foiled the attempt. As a precautionary measure, visa processing at the office has been suspended until further notice. Why is Bangladesh on fire? Student leader Sharif Usman Hadi was shot in the head by masked men near Bijaynagar in Dhaka on December 12. He was admitted to a hospital in Singapore but died on December 18. Violence has since broken out in many parts of Bangladesh. Violent protests have erupted near the Indian Embassy in Dhaka, and the consulates in Chittagong, Khulna and Rajshahi. It has been decided to suspend all visa-related work from today after miscreants tried to vandalise the Indian consulate in the port city of Chittagong. The murdered Sharif Usman Hadi was the leader of the uprising against Sheikh Hasina last year. He led massive protests. He had also contested the upcoming elections. Some people there allege that India is behind his assassination. There are allegations that Pakistan-inspired forces are misusing this assassination incident for their own evil purposes. Anti-India and anti-Hindu acts are increasingly taking place during the protests, including the incident where a Hindu man was attacked and burned to death by miscreants. Evil forces are trying to portray that India is behind the assassination. Thousands of people gathered at Hadi's funeral. Anti-India slogans were loudly chanted there. The tactics used by militants in Kashmir are visible there. Anti-India slogans like ‘Delhi or Dhaka-Dhaka Dhaka’ (Delhi or Dhaka-Dhaka Dhaka) were heard at the funeral of Sharif Usman Hadi. It is clear that pro-Pakistani forces have gained the upper hand in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina’s departure.
